Students Shadow and Gain Experience During Annual Barry Site Event

March 09, 2020
Every year our Barry, UK site welcomes some students to show them around the manufacturing plant and to help them understand how school work fits into real life as well as provide insight into difference career choices that may be available.
This year, they hosted three students for a three-day, action-packed program. The program began with a safety introduction and then continued with time spent in nearly every department on site.

Some of the highlights for this year’s program include:
  • Testing the safety showers
  • Analyzing substances in the lab
  • A look at the history of the site going back to the 1940’s
  • Working in various departments such as warehousing and maintenance
Throughout the program, the students are tasked with completing a log book after each event to reflect on their experiences and what has been helpful for them. The goal of this is to help these students find out what they may want, or don’t want, to do as a career.

At the end of the program the students are given certificates to take home as well as feedback on their time there. The students will also give the site feedback on the event so the Barry site can continue to make modifications to the program to make it even better next year.
