Iserlohn Plant Participates in Local Irrigation Campaign Created due to Heat Wave

March 09, 2020
An extreme heat wave impacted most of the world for a few weeks during 2019 and stretched from most of the United States all the way to the other side of the world. The extreme heat wave in Germany caused temperatures to reach up to 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) which can pose a major danger to people.

However, people are not the only ones affected by extreme heat. Young city trees are in severe danger in heat like that due to multiple factors. First, because they are young trees, they have not had time to form a large root system, so they will have a difficult time storing enough water. Another reason they are in danger is because most of them are planted close to roads and the asphalt can prevent them from rooting sufficiently.

Because of the heat wave and the danger it poses to the young trees, the city of Iserlohn, Germany asked its residents to help them. They asked people to irrigate their local trees to keep them from drying out.

Hexion has a very strong motto of “Responsible Chemistry” and corporate citizenship, so the associates at the Iserlohn plant answered their city's call for help.

The associates wanted to be able to provide enough water to as many trees as possible, so the fire brigade rushed to the nearby trees with one of their fire engines. The tank on the engine can hold up to 2,000 liters of water and they were able to use that water on nearby trees in a playground and parking lot.
