Hexion Earns 2024 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year

March 26, 2024
Energy Star Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence 2024

Hexion Inc. announced it has been selected for the ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award for Sustained Excellence in Energy Management by the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR program.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Hexion has been named an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year, and the second year in a row that the company has been recognized with the Sustained Excellence designation. The Sustained Excellence award is the highest honor bestowed by EPA’s ENERGY STAR program. It is awarded to ENERGY STAR partners that have proven organization-wide energy savings to combat climate change and protect public health, demonstrate best practices across their organization, and actively participate and share the benefits of the ENERGY STAR program.

“Hexion is committed to operating our plants with world class energy saving programs, so it is an honor to see our efforts validated by EPA’s ENERGY STAR,” said Michael Lefenfeld, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Each year we leverage best practices that focus on environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. In 2023, our sites completed 17 projects that lowered energy costs $570K annually, reducing energy usage by 25,900 MMBTU and greenhouse gas emissions emissions by 1,726 metric tons of CO2-equivalent.  I’m convinced that at Hexion, we’re just scratching the surface of our potential to enhance operational efficiencies and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions through innovation. I want to recognize all our skilled team members who are spearheading these vital efforts.”

Hexion has driven an approximately 42 percent reduction in energy intensity and 33 percent reduction in green house gas emissions intensity since beginning its partnership with ENERGY STAR in 2014. Hexion’s recognition by the EPA also recognizes the Company’s St. Romuald facility achievement of the ENERGY STAR’s Challenge for Industry by achieving 17.4 percent energy efficiency improvement within 3 years of taking the challenge.  Hexion also launched an integrated communications campaign internally and externally to promote and build awareness, with a focus on environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

Each year, the ENERGY STAR program honors a select group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to energy efficiency and the transition to a clean energy economy. ENERGY STAR award winners lead their industries in the production, sale, and adoption of energy-efficient products, homes, buildings, services, and strategies. These efforts have saved more than 5 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity over the past 30 years.

“President Biden’s Investing in America agenda creates unprecedented opportunity to build a clean energy economy, and private sector partners through programs like ENERGY STAR are leading the way,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “I congratulate this year’s ENERGY STAR award winners for their innovation and leadership, in delivering cost-effective energy efficient solutions that create jobs, address climate change, and contribute to a healthier environment for all.”

Winners are selected from a network of thousands of ENERGY STAR partners.
