Hexion Celebrates 150th Kasseler Braun Anniversary in Germany

November 07, 2018

Hexion recently celebrated the 150th anniversary of first mention of the Kasseler Braun production process in 1868. The event was planned as a big community celebration with families and local associations joining together.

The Hexion plant in Frielendorf where the Kasseler Braun was produced sits adjacent to the former monastery grounds in Spieskappel. Substances for the production of Bakelite, and thus for the world's first fully synthetic plastic, were produced there from 1948 onwards. Guided tours of the plant as well as the former monastery followed an opening ceremony.

Today the plant produces granulates from 6000 tons of raw materials per year, which serve as the basis for the production of plastics.
